Swedish 101: Röd

Röd is Swedish for the colour Red. Yes the Dalarna horse is red but the red we are talking about is the deep red in the picture of this barn from the Dalarna horse factory. For those that have been to our house will already know that we like this Swedish (deep) Red colour. The shed in our backyard is painted this colour as is part of our basement. Why do we like it? Well it seems that no matter where you go in the countryside in Sweden the barns, houses, cottages, sheds, garages, etc. are all painted in the same Röd. So having our own red shed is perhaps our own little bit of Sweden back home in Canada. This deep red paint apparently originated from a copper mine in Falun which just so happens also to be in Dalarna. More information on röd visit Wikpedia here.
